Support Services

Bassendean Primary School places a high priority on academic and pastoral care. To assist with this, additional services are available through the school.  Your classroom teacher will normally discuss concerns with you before any referrals are made. Any referrals made are case managed by the Deputy Principal and Student Services Team.

School PsychologistThe School Psychologist works at the school one day per week. Students may be referred to the School Psychologist as part of case management overseen by the Deputy Principal and the Student Services Team. Referrals made by staff require informed parental consent before any intervention or testing program conducted by the School Psychologist can commence.

School ChaplainThe School Chaplain is available two days a week. The role of the School Chaplain is to enhance the school’s capacity to support student social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing. The School Chaplain does not take religious lessons or discuss faith. A referral to the Chaplain may involve individual or small group discussions and activities and are case managed by the Deputy Principal and Student Services Team.

School NurseThe school nurse visits the school on a regular basis. The school nurse program offers all children a free health check the year that they start school to help them start their school journey healthy, safe and happy. Once attending, the school will send home a School Entry Health Assessment form together with more information about the health check. The envelope will look like this:

The School Entry Health Assessment (SEHA) form asks about your child’s health and development to   provide more information to the school nurse who will be doing the health check. You can also add  extra  information about your child, if you want. Please make sure you fill in this form and then return it to the school as soon as you can. It is very important that you sign the form, so the school nurse has your consent to do the assessment.
